Gum disease inherited? |
The people from my dad's side of the family tends to develop gum disease very easily. Does that mean I will get it too no matter how hard I try to keep my teeth clean? I'm still a teen and I don't want to end up like my father whose teeth are mostly fake, and he is only in his 40s. But 2-3 false teeth would be ok for me if I ever needed them. It doesn't mean you will get it, but you are more likely to get it. Make sure you use proper brushing techniques, floss every other day, and use a mouthwash. Get a check up also to see if you do have it. If you have periodontal disease (different from gum disease, also involves bleeding gums, bone loss, and periodontal pockets) there is no cure for it, but you can control it by using the methods above and get a scaling/root planning every month (if it is inherited then you most likely need one every month, if not then it would be every 3 months). yes gum disease is inherited you may want to take a trip to the dentist and see what they can do for you.. You know it is so odd you asking that. I myself took after my dad's side of the family - I had to have dentures long before my time. My sister took after my mom's side of the family and she passed away with all her own teeth. But, keep on taking extra care of your teeth, flossing and regular check ups will be the best you can do. I tryed, but seemed like I lost track somewhere. Take care of yourself. Good Luck and God Bless you. I'm voting for Dr. DOA's very accurate answer. You do not inherit gum disease, but the tendancy to have it may be related to an inherited condition. It just means that it is more important for you than the next guy to really keep your teeth and gums clean. Although inheritence is likely, you may try alternative/natural dental care products like Neem based toothpastes, use Neem powder for gurgle, take half teaspoon of iodised salt (rock salt, if possible) pour 5-6 drops of mustard oil (filtered but unrefined, if possible) and rub on your teeth like you would do with tooth powder, do it once or twice a week. Good Luck for healthy gums and teeth for life! Gum disease is caused mostly by bad oral hygene, make sure to brush a lot and floss everyday. But if you take supplements, its been proven that gum disease is discreased by half. Look, its not 100% that inherited diseases are distributed among all members of the family, keep good hiygene of ur oral cavity and we'll see |
