What are the odds of me having gum disease? |
hi, a part of my gum seems a little darker but i do not feel any pain and there are no other strange symptoms. What are the odds of me having gum disease and is treatment painful? I have a dentist appointment but i am just very paranoid I had the beginning signs of gingivitus during my braces years. Since the doctor caught it early i was able to treat it with listerine mouth wash twice a day until it finally dissapeared while brushing my gums gently daily. Don't worry. Even if there's something wrong, you probably won't have to take out any teeth, gum treatment doesn't suck much. Periodontal diseases don't always have pain. u could have gum problem, treatment now a days is pretty painless. Nothing than an over the counter pain med could fix. Genetics, poor diet and especially not brushing/flossing can lead to problems. Invest in a good toothbrush like Sonicare or Oral B or what ur dentist recommends, have regular cleanings/ck ups and you'll be fine. I had to start using a waterpik to remove food particles that I wasn't brushing enough. I'm paranoid too but ur dentist can be your best defense against other health issue later down the road. Most people have slight gum disease which is kept under control w/ regular cleanings and home care like flossing. You could have some calculus or tartar buildup beneath the gums which makes the gums look darker that should be removed at your cleaning or it could just be a skin discoloring. Cleanings should not be painful. If you need a deep cleaning they may numb you to prevent any pain and get beneath the gum lines. If you had severe problems they could send you to a periodontist who specializes in gum disease treatment and does surgeries and etc. on gums. |
