i think i mite be getting gum disease im not sure.my gums are red and sometimes my teeth get sore and now i mite have a loose tooth.i brush and floss 3 times a day.hopefully its not too late to treat my teeth but my appointment isnt for over a month and im starting to get worried.if u kno any popular toothpastes i would be more than happy to try them.thx

Oh no, that's a case for the dentist. You need that treated immediately.

I am glad you have an appointment with the dentist.. did you tell them that you have a tooth that feels loose? Is there any chance they can move your appointment to an earlier time or at least call you if someone cancels?

I am not a dentist & do not specialize in tooth or gum problems

My boyfriend has had similar problems & for a long time simply refused to go to the dentist. I finally talked him into making an appointment & his was 6 weeks from the timehe called. The dentist recommended as a "in the meantime measure" Trident Sugarless gum and Toms of Miane toothpaste as both of those things have Xylitol (a sweetner that is considered a sugar-replacement). Xylitol has been used in Europe to treat mouth & sinus infections. It is not harmful, it is made from Birch Trees..... he also was concerned that one of his teeth was loose so he decided against the gum (afraid his tooth would get pulled out) and went to the health food store. They also encouraged the use of Xylitol, sold him Toms of Maine Toothpaste as well as Xylitol in a powdered form. Their suggestion was to mix Xylitol with warm water & rinse with it the same as a mouthwash.

The end result... it was almost difficult to convince him to keep his appointment with the dentist as the inflamation was dramatically reduced. The reason he did go was that he still had a loose tooth & had begun to feel he must have a cavity... when he got to the dentist, he did not have any cavities, he did have periodential disease & his gums were receding... the reason his tooth felt wolby was that on that tooth, the gum had receded so far that it wasn't really holding onto the tooth.

That was in October... the dentist recommened changing to a toothpaste designed for dry mouth and to continue the xylitol wash & increase it to at least twice per day. She wanted to see him once er week just to monitor his progress. She only charged him $10 for each follow visit (that wasn't covered by insurance)... by mid-December she had released him from her care as he was doing very well. They will see how is doing 6 months down the road for a normal check-up and to determine if he needs to go to a periodontist or if this will work well enough.

This is something I've used a few times for myself when I've had trouble with my gums and it has always helped me. It's using powdered goldenseal mixed with a little water. You can buy goldenseal powder (in individual capsules) at health food stores or maybe in the vitamin section at Wal Mart etc. It is bitter tasting but you don't swallow it-just swish it around for a few minutes and then spit it out. Don't rinse for about 15 minutes. If you want something commercial, use Biotene toothpaste or mouthwash.(I prefer the mouthwash)
