Do toothless people still have to worry about gum disease?

I know it may sound dumb, but I was wondering about it. I'm 16 and I have a full set of false teeth. I haven't been to a dentist since a little after I got them a couple years ago and I was wondering if gum disease is a problem for people that don't have any teeth.

you wont get gum disease, but you still need to go to the dentist for check ups to make sure your gums are staying healthy.

No, you won't get gum disease.

certainly you still need to see your dentist regularly. problems could arise from your teeth not fitting properly, food substance caught under the dentures, etc. You're 16, you have a lot of years ahead to take care of your mouth. Please make an appt. as soon as you can since it's been 2 years already.

Geez, I dunno but I hope not. I don't have any teeth either and I haven't been to a dentist in over 10 years. I had the last of my teeth pulled just before I turned 15 and I don't have false teeth, I just go gummy.

toothless at 14??? OMG!
ok... emotions aside you should see your dentist once a year. He will check the fit of your dentures and screen for oral cancer. Since you had your dentures so young you going to run into problem later. Imagine that you have one huge tooth in your mouth and you apply all the chewing force onto that one tooth. Your jaw bone going to take a lot of beating. This is why your dentures should fit perfect. I've seen cases where people who had dentures early in life had to have implant-supported dentures later in life just because the bone was getting too thin. Implant-supported dentures cost more (obviously) but they fit better and keep the bone from reseeding.

Yes it is important. You will not get gum disease, but you can get inflammation. If you don't take your dentures out at night to let your tissues breathe the tissue will become red and inflammed. It is called denture stomatitis.
