Question about gum disease?

I am 33 years old, and I think I'm losing my teeth.

I brush, floss, and use mouthwash twice a day, every day, religiously, yet my gums look very bad. They are extremely receded and now I am feeling like my teeth are "shifting." I don't understand what's going on. How can someone who is so persistant about good oral health have this problem? Could this be hereditary? I know my family has a lot of tooth issues. My concern is that I don't want to have my teeth pulled. I think I'm way too young for that.

Here's my main question: Are my teeth salvagable even though they are feeling like they are getting loose or shifting? I know implants are outrageously expensive and I don't want teeth I can remove (aka dentures). Any info on teeth and gum issues here would be helpful. Thanks

yes they are most certainly slavageable
and you should go to the dentist and have a checkup...even though you brush and floss,
You may have a gum infection.. called Trench Mouth...the infection can be caused by sharing cigarettes, kissing people you are not familiar with , drinking from someone elses glass or other ways that you have come into contact with this particular bacteria... very easily fixed up with a prescription and a good dental cleaning.. but go before it get worse than it is..
DO NOT WIGGLE YOUR TEETH OR USE TOOTHPICKS

think back to when you first noticed this and think what you had been doing during that time.... if you can make some notes..
I have seen this before and it happened cause someone was searching for money in their wallet and put some bills in their mouth while they were sorting through and it wrecked havic that took 3 months or more to get under control.. so go right away... get it looked after and you will be fixed up before it is too late

Yes, heredity can play a part. Anyway, even if you brush and floss carefully you can have plaque below the gumline that will destroy gum tissue attachment and eventually the bone that supports the teeth. See a PERIODONTIST for an evaluation ASAP. Gum disease can be reversed to some extent or at least stabilized by scaling or root planing (and other treatments most likely NOT available from your regular dentist), and regular periodontal care.

If you go to the orthodontist there are treatments they can do, there are also new methods of adding tissue, I do believe. Don't give up the fight and definitely don't just sit back and watch it happen, I am sure this day and age there are wondrous things out there

Do you get regular cleanings?? If not that could be the problem also. YOu can't clean the areas under the gums only the hygeinest or dentist can do that. But if you feel like they are getting loose and you are having issues with your gums go to the dentist and he/she can tell you what they can do for you. Good Luck
