Is there anything that can be done about gum disease?

My dentist said a few years ago that my gumline is deteriorating. He said that it can be somewhat normal, but my problem was that I was 20 at the time, not over 45. He said at the rate my gum line is deteriorating, I'll lose my teeth by 30 yrs old. He offered no treatment.
I don't smoke and hardly drink. I lead a healthy, active life and do like my pearlie whites
Right now I'm 24 and in the past 3 months, I've noticed that my gumline has deteriorated a lot. I brush and floss everyday. Is there anything I can do or should I just expect to lose my teeth by the time i'm 30?

I don't chew or smoke. Thanks!

ok number one dont brush your teeth too hard this makes the gum wear off therefore exposing more of you teeth to bacteria .
use tepe brushes these can be bought from the dentist or the pharmacy they are like dental floss but get right into your teeth to get rid of decay. the dentist should of also given you a gel to put on your gum to stop it from bleeding when you brush.
oh and mouth wash does not do anything it only makes your breath smell fresh, its like throwing milk on the wall it just drains off onto the floor well mouthwash does the same

go get a second opinion. i hope you don't chew that don't help your mouth at all. every good dentist would tell you what you can do for treatment.

get yourself to another dentist - and get a referral to a specialist... you might be able to avoid anything too drastic - worse comes to worse - get crowns

See a specialist in gum disease. They can help you and I wish more dentists would tell their patients that. Don't waste time, see one now before it's too late. You don't want to lose your teeth and that will happen if you don't do anything about it.

vitamin C is good for the gums health!! buy a supplement!

I had the same trouble at the same age and I am now 48 and I have a top set of false teeth and soon will be getting the bottoms done- but I did manage to put it off for a few years by seeing a periodontist, who suggested I get a Water-Pik , and I did and he recommended I use a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide and water in it and to be sure I aimed the pik into the gums and flush them out daily, and to use Listerine in the water-pik also-diluted too. And at my regular dentist check ups he was amazed at how much my gums had improved- but my damage had been done to the bone long before it showed in my gums- which is why I had (have)false ones. Stress can be a major cause of gum problems also- but keep flossing, brush often and buy a water-pik if you can't afford one just use peroxide and warm water from a cup right after you flooss but before you brush and then use the Listerine after brushing! good Luck!

CoQ10 provides support to keep gums healthy. Look it up on the internet. It is available without prescription. Good luck.

Im in the exact same position my dentist also warned me that i could lose my teeth due to this (im 25) He said it was gum disease. Like I you I don't smoke, hardly drink and I dont eat sugary sweets. My dentist resorts to Scaling which is painful when he digs around the gumline. Ive been reading this week that antibiotics are needed to get rid of it followed by brushing flossing etc. Ive got to see him next week and dreading it. Try a second opinion cos there is treatment available. Theres even a toothpaste called Time Control, think its colgate.
