My brother has Guillain-Barre Syndrome I need help.?

X-mas eve my 30yr old brother was taken to ICU in Madison. he has 3 kids rangin from 8months to 7yrs. His wife is a stay home mom and has been by his side since this started. They need help paying bills and so on. They are already on Medical Assistance and Housing, They have no way to pay there bills they called our city agencies asking for help and they are telling them they have no money to help them.. What can they do who can they turn to? If anyone has any idea where they can go for help please let me know. I will be in debt to you if you can help in anyway... ITs not bad enough that he has this syndrome but he has the worst he is on a respirator and has been since he got there he also ended up with duble pneumonia and now they are going to do a treyck... He was ina coma for a week, and he is completly paralized they are hoping he will come out of that but of course they are not sure. Please any information will help. Sincerly Rachael

Have your sister inlaw go to social services and apply for a.f.d.c. (aide for dependant children). They will quailify for both food stamps and cash aide and this will help them pay the bills. Also, if your family is affiliated with a church, there is a special fund for needy families called a "benevolent fund". This is also an option. Try calling your local "Salvation Army" as well. They often will help pay utility bills (once every two years, i believe) in times such as this. God Bless your brother and family!

Earlier this year, a friend of mine contracted Guillion-Barre. She too, was paralyzed and had a tracheotomy. It usually is at it's worse about 3 weeks into the illness and then slowly, but surely he WILL come out of it. He will probably have to have physical rehab, but my friend is completely back to normal now. She began to get ill in October. By Thanksgiving she was back at home with her husband and children. Don't give up hope. I hope that he is at a good medical facility. My friend was in a Montgomery, AL hospital, but was transferred to UAB hospital in Birmingham, AL. They are one of the best research hospitals in the US. I am sure that they would counsel with your brother's doctor's over the phone. As far as the bills go, I'm not sure, but keep digging. Check out the website on Guillion-Barre. They may have some links to help there. Good luck!!

You need to speak to someone in social services at the hospital. They should be able to get you some help or refer you to someone who can. Call radio stations and TV stations if you have to. They love stories like this. This must be aweful and I hope he comes through this alright. Once he is out of the hospital he should be able to file for disability.
