Graves disease!!!?

ok my older sister has 2 forms of graves disease.. she is 25. i know she is on several medications for the disease but is sketchy on taking them as she is supposed too. my question is since the graves disease already gives her tachycardia (fast heartrate) what can happen to her if i she does a drug like coccaine? what happened was she called me this last weekend when she was out drinking with some friends and told me she had a little cocaine. i am worried that she could have a serious side effect with already having the graves disease.... she made it this time but if she messes with the stuff again can it kill her suddently?

what should i do!!!!??????

I also have Grave's disease. Has your sister had the radioactive iodine yet? When given it is suppose to kill part of the thyroid and lower the amount of thyroid in your blood, reducing the tachycardia. She should really try to get her Graves disease under control if she is going to be living a wild life. I know with a fast heart rate cocaine does not mix it can cause heart failure. She may be going thru alot too, not knowing what is going on with her disease, maybe see about getting her into a support group. It is a life long disease. Because usually after the radioactive idione you go hypothyroid and require thyroid meds for life. Hope this helps.

The tachycardia associated with Graves Disease puts your heart under stress. She should follow her doctors prescribed treatment plan precisely to get her thyroid under control. Smoking and drugs should be absolutely out of the question to avoid any further stress on the heart. Report It

Some of the medcation can cause a heart attack just on their own like Avandia.
Cocaine can cause irregular heart beat on its own. I think mixing any drugs not prescribed by your doctor is an accident waiting to happen.
