Does anyone else with Graves disease gain weight? |
I was recently diagnosed with Graves disease and I am obviously hyperactive thyroid. But for some reason, I am huge. I have NEVER weighed so much. I eat relatively healthy ( I eat subway a lot too). If i have graves disease and I am hyperactive thyroid, why am I gaining so much weight??? I have done tons of research on GD and I havent found anything about being overweight. All of the sudden I starting packing on pounds like crazy, then found out that I have GD. Does ANYONE else have this problem? What Can I do? I have talked to my doctors and they brush off the weight problem like its nothing. I weigh 250! And I gained 20lbs in a month. I need help :( I was diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid. I just had a thyroid biopsy 3 days ago because I also have an enlarged thyroid. I was diagnosed 2 months. I am also very overweight. I use to weigh 175 and now weigh 230. I also asked my Dr.about my weight and he said it wasn't because of the hyperactive thyroid. I feel that I am not normal. I am hungry all the time. I have been doing alot of research about weight gain and hyperactive thyroid. Because they say you usually loose weight with a hyperactive thyroid. I feel like its making me gain weight. I do not have Graves disease; although, I am taking a medical course and I frequently visit a very thorough website for my studies. I thought it might be of help to your question as well. I have Graves Disease. If the doctor put you on PTU or some thyroid medication, that Will make you gain anywhere from 10-20 lbs. If you gained more than that, ask your doctor about ELBOW DISEASE. |
