Graves Disease/Hyperthyroidism and I-141 Treatment?

In the last 2 months I found out that I have Graves Disease. I recently underwent the I-131 treatment to kill my thyroid. I missed about 12 days of work from this because it just wore me out completely.

Has anyone had this treatment before? If so what were some of your side effects of the treatment? I am on completely unchartered territory and my doctor isn't too helpful.

Also, I am developing kidney or flank pain on my left side. I am nto sure this is related but I have a feeling that it could be since the radiation does such a number on your system.

I'd appreciate any thing that can be offered.

My co-worker is currently undergoing treatment for graves, and my best friend had it about 10 years ago. The radiation therapy will make you very tired as your body needs to repair itself. Also, since your thyroid is going from Hyper to Hypo, you will feel sluggish, depressed and pretty much blah until they get your replacement meds right.

It's not surprising your doctor is unhelpful, most know very little about graves. My friend Chris was mis-diagnosed for almost 2 years before they figured out what it was. Just hang in there and you will get better, it's just going to take a little time.

Well, all I know is that my father had hypothyroidism ever since he was 3. He had the surgery for it, too. My dog has Canine Hypothyroidism, as well!!!!
