Does anyone know about personality changes with Graves Disease?

My wife was diagnosed with Graves Disease a few months ago, which is a thyroid condition. Now she wants out of the marriage and to move away, saying she doesn't love me anymore. I know her hormones are out of balance, but this? Has anyone known someone with this disease that has experienced similar issues?

YIKES
My husband had Graves disease and he was horrid. I hated him. He was mean and cruel and nearly violent.
Get her help.
Don't let her leave, it is most definitely the sickness talking.
He took Propananol (sp?) and he was so much better.
Good luck.
If you love her, never ever give up.

PS it was me that wanted to leave because he was so mean, until I figured out he was sick....

I know people with this disease, and yes it can cause mood changes. Google Graves Disease- mood changes and you'll see tons of information. I'm sorry you are going through this. Her hormones are out of whack.

Hi.

WebMD and about.com have numerous articles on this. They also have forums and contact info for experts. Here's a link you might find interesting:

However, NEVER try to self-diagnosis your problem. Please consult a marriage counselor or doctor. You should never put yourself in the position of trying to diagnose your wife or yourself. Even if you were a doctor, ALWAYS seek an independent view.

Yes, I had Grave's. I was the meanest, witchiest thing alive until it was diagnosed and I went on meds. When I went into remission, my mother commented that her sweet little one had returned. I didn't feel any differently mentally or emotionally, except I felt a bit calmer since I could actually think a few coherent thoughts strung together. I basically reverted to my pre-Grave's emotional state.

However, if your wife has been diagnosed and she is on meds (you don't say), it doesn't sound like the Grave's Disease is the problem. You'll want to work this one out with professional help.
