Is anyone using PTU for Graves disease? What are the side affects? Does it cause hypothyroidism? |
I have Graves disease, my doctor is really rude and won't answer questions for me. Some possible side effects of propylthiouracil (PTU) include: P.S. I got my latest blood test results yesterday and I am hypo now again. I have to stop taking PTU and have another test next week. My graves disease was diagnosed 3 months ago and that is since when I took PTU. So in fact, it can cause hypothyroidsm. Weird, isn麓t it? Report It PTU itself does not cause hypothyroidism. It simply hinders your gland producing to much thyroid hormone. If your body gets a too high dose of PTU (because your thyroid gets less iodine to convert into thyroid hormones or for other reasons) then you can get hypo. |
