Wouldn't my doctor know by now if i have graves disease?

i have had so much blood work done, thyroid ultra sound and thyroid scan and a very enlarged thyroid, they started testing in aug and now he thinks i have graves disease he wants to do a thyroid uptake? shouldn't he know from all the other test what is wrong with me? i'm so sick and i feel like just giving up, do you think i should know by now what is wrong?

Yes, he should be able to diagnose you from your blood tests. You should have had a TSI and a total TRab. TSI is the definitive test for Graves disease.

You need to stop with the invasive tests, and get a new doctor, pronto. One who knows how to read a blood test.

For years the diagnosis for my disease seemed like Mission Impossible. Turns out I had Peter Graves disease.

Get a new doctor. Do you take any constant medications that could weaken your immune system. It sounds like you may be haveing a variety of problems that keep coming and going and changing. take tons of vit c everyday. 10,000 units. That may fix you in two weeks. It makes your body heal itself. Your doctor is playing your insurance.

Well, there's so many diseases out there, sometimes it takes a while cos there's so many diseases that could have the same symptoms, and they need to eliminate those before making a decision. You wouldn't want them to start treating you for something completely different...

Bottom line: A good doctor would have diagnosed you LONG ago. No need for many tests! I come from a family of GOOD doctors who told me that a good doctor can look at you and have a clue what the problem is and if more than 2 tests are done, they do not know what they're talking about, or simply looking for money. Go to a Chinese doctor, ask around in China town. I'm not Chinese but I go to one (since it's against the law to see a doctor from your family,) and he's amazing. Chinese medicine always cures AND they know what they're doing! Good luck!

Tests for Grave's disease:-
Physical examination shows an increased heart rate. Examination of the neck may show thyroid enlargement (goiter).
Serum TSH is decreased
Serum T3, free T4 are higher than normal
Radioactive iodine uptake is usually high
This disease may also alter the following test results:
TSI
Orbit CT scan or ultrasound

From what I understand because I have been recently diagnosed with Graves Disease, the uptake is the determining factor. If the uptake is high along with the other test results, you have Graves Disease. If the uptake is low, you may have a thyroiditis which can sometimes go back to normal on its own.
