Does anyone out there have any idea what Grays or Graves disease is? And what are the symthoms?

I'm having so many-many things going wrong with my body all at the same time that I'm complacting sucide. A friend of mine told me about her bout with the disease and her symthoms were almost identical to what I've been experiencing for so long. can anyone help me out with this?

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. Grave's Disease is a thyroid disorder. Basically, your immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid, which in turn cannot produce the thyroid hormone called thyroxine. The higher levels of thyroxine in your body can greatly increase your metablism which leads to a variety of health problems, such as anxiety, irritability, insomnia, fatigue, rapid heart beat, a tremor in your fingers or hands, heat sensitivity, weight loss, brittle hair, and frequent bowel movements to name a few. You may also experience decreased concentration, mental impairment, brittle nails, itchy skin, brittle nails, and much more.
I don't know what symptoms you are experiencing but if it is indeed Grave's Disease, it is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test to check your thyroid levels. Rarely, doctors perform a test called a radioactive iodine uptake, in which you will be given a small amount of radioactive iodine and checked later to measure the amount of iodine in your thyroid. This will tell your doctor the rate at which your thyroid takes up iodine. If you have a high rate of iodine uptake, it indicates that you are producing too much thyroxine, as in the case of Grave's. As I said, though, a simple blood test to check your T3, T4, T3RU, and TSH is all that is needed. Grave's is rarely life-threatening and can be treated with medications beta blockers to relieve your symptoms, anti-thyroid medications to to prevent your thyroid from producing too many hormones, or radioactive iodine treatment to destroy overactive thyroid cells, causing your thyroid to shrink to a more normal size.
Please do not consider suicide; I know how terrible it is when you feel like there are so many things wrong with your body, but, as I said, Grave's is a manageable condition. Please be sure to get the medical care that you need and make sure that you have a shoulder to cry on if you need it. If you have not addressed testing for Grave's with your physician, I would reccomend doing so if you believe there is a possibility that it is what is causing your symptoms. I hope I was able to help; please feel free to contact me if you need to. Best of luck to you.
