Gout help please?

well its like this. im 28, a fair bit overweight (damn you junk food!) and last year i had an attack of gout. i had gone to the quack then and he just gave me some ibuprofen and told me to lose weight. the attack went after a few hours

but earlier today i had another one and this time it was even worse. i could barely walk and even the slightest touch was agony. ive taken some Cuprofen and thats helped but is gout a permenent thing? and am i too young to have it at age 28? i hear some foods can start it and alocohol does too but i dont drink so much! any idea what foods do it?

Well, as far as Gout being permanent, its yes and no. Yes, it can be recurring and it usually gets worse each time. Starts with the big toe since its the coldest part of your body and then can hit other joints, namely the elbows, ankles, and knees afterwards. It only hits one joint at a time.

But no, it might not be permanent because for some, it happened once and never came back. So, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

As far as the age thing is concerned, those are all statistics. Technically you are too young, but then again, its not like its that rare that you got it at 28. There are other factors at work that may increase your chances, such as your weight and genetics.

The foods that trigger it are ones high in purine. Red Meat, Seafood, and Alcohol are the big culprits.

Your best bet is to work on a diet that consists of more alkaline food than acidic food. That means more fruits, more vegetables, and try to intake a large amount of water in your system every day. That keeps your body hydrated and it helps in excreting the uric acid that forms in your system that causes the painful gout.

As for the drugs....keep it to a minimal. I know the pain can be excruciating but high dosages of NSAIDS and other drugs for gout have been known to have contribute to kidney and heart problems. So keep an eye on that as well.

Good luck....I've been there and it is very painful!

Google Gout and you will find a wealth of info. Its not necessarily because of you being overweight but certainly diet or lack of nutrition can trigger it.Go to a real doctor from now on

Gout is a form of arthiritis, due to excessive amounts of uric acid in the blood, patients with gout also have a tendency to form kidney stones. Lots of water will help.drugs of choice for treatment are colchicine and allopurinol.

The main idea of a gout diet is to try to reduce or completely avoid food that will cause the body to produce excessive uric acid. Gout sufferers should try to prevent excessive consumption of protein and sugar which are the main producer of uric acid in the body. Other food which should be avoided in a gout diet includes processed food, fried food and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Some of these foods which a gout diet should avoid are actually 鈥渉ealthy food鈥? However these 鈥渉ealthy food鈥?are actually harmful to gout patients and thus should be avoided in a gout diet no matter how healthy they are. Two other major harmful elements which should be avoided completely in a gout diet are alcohol and cigarettes. It might be easy to say but could be difficult to comply. However for the sack of minimizing all the painful gout attacks, it is without doubt worth all the effort put in.
