Is gout inheritied from the mother or father's side of the family, or can it come from either side?

I have had problems with gout over the years. I have learned that there is a family history of the condition - there have been people on both my mom and dad's side of the family who have had the condition. I'm thinking that I've got a genetic predisposition to gout, I was wondering if it was something that would've come from my mom's side or dad's?

Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease due to an inborn disorder of the uric acid metabolism .This provokes an inflammatory reaction of these tissues. These deposits often increase in size and burst through the skin to form sinuses discharging a chalky white material.

Normally, the human bloodstream only carries small amounts of uric acid. However, if the blood has an elevated concentration of uric acid, uric acid crystals are deposited in the cartilage and tissue surrounding joints. Elevated blood levels of uric acid can also result in uric kidney stones.

The signs:

The classic picture is of excruciating and sudden pain, swelling, redness, warmness and stiffness in the joint. Low-grade fever may also be present. The patient usually suffers from two sources of pain. The crystals inside the joint cause intense pain whenever the affected area is moved.

The inflammation of the tissues around the joint also causes the skin to be swollen, tender and sore if it is even slightly touched. For example, a blanket draping over the affected area could cause extreme pain.

Treatment:

If u go to doctor, they might give u a medicine called indomethacin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This helps u to treat the virus properly.

And yes, it is a geneticly disorder and u can get it from both sides of the family

Men usually get gout. Must come from your fathers side.

Gout is a type of arthritis, so if both sides have shown signs of gout or arthritis symptoms you could be destined for it from either side. It would be very hard to say what side it came from, it's just life........some get it, some don't. I don't get Gout, I have spinal arthritis, my son get's Gout episodes, both sides have arthritis but no Gout. So it just goes...................Good luck.

My Father has gout a good bit there for awhile, till the Dr. told him what to eat and not to eat,. Gout is caused by a certain amount of acid building up in your body,it usually hits your knees or your feet. Best thing to do ASK your Doctor and good luck.

In addition to family genetics, gout is strongly influenced by diet .Unfortunately, dietary trends seem to run in families too.Avoid salty, fried, and fatty foods. It will help tremendously.
