Gout or reaction to chemo?

I have chemo once a month and 3 weeks ago my right foot, my 2 little toes started itching then the week after //////I got out of bed and I had severe pain and some swelling in my toes and foot. Well, My doctor seen it on Thursday and said it was a reaction from the chemo. I've been eating ALOT of shrimp all month and didn't tell him that. My friends & family think it's gout. It's severly swollen and I can't walk on it. Everyday the swelling gets worse. What do you think? The pain is excusiating. I have it elevated, ice hurts.

It maybe due to secondary hyperuricaemia since during chemotherapy, there is enhanced nucleic acid metabolism which increases uric acid producton and gout means increase uric acid level. The uric acid precipitates and deposits in joints. first joint being affected is (metatarso-phalangeal joint) of great toe. The joint becomes extremely painful, red and swollen.

MY DAD HAS GOUT IN HIS KNEE
HE USED TO PLAY SOCCOR BUT HAD TO STOP CAUSE IT WAS SO PAINFUL
SOMETIMES, HE JUST PUTS HIS LEG IN A BUCKET OF HOT WATER SO THE PAIN WILL STOP
THE JOB HE DOES KEEPS HIM ON HIS KNEES, SO THAT INCREASES THE PAIN
ALL I KNOW ABOUT GOUT IS THAT IT IS REAL PAINFUL

The above site shows a connection between leukemia and lymphoma and gout. It states that they increase the uric acid in the body which is the cause of gout. If your chemo is for either of those, then that may be a possibility. However, gout usually shows up in the joint of the largest toe first as this site will show you. Vincristine, which is a part of the CHOP chemo treatment for lymphoma, can cause problems with both the toes and fingers . If you experience numbness in either, you should ask the doctor about discontinuing that part of the treatment since it can cause nerve problems even after stopping chemo. Doing this before your next treatment is scheduled is advisable.

Its probably the chemo. Some patients complain of itchness from the chemo ask and see if they will give u sivlveerdine i think thats how its spelled.also ask him to send you for xrays and a bone scan. You didnt say what kind of cancer you have but he should have at least sent you for the xray
