Fish oil is great as an anti-inflammatory and can help with the inflammatory aspect of gout. Main problem with gout is caused by your bodies inability to process uric acid. This causes urate crystals to form in joints. This is what causes a gout flare up. No amount of fish oil can help this.

Our bodies produce a chemical that processes uric acid. If your body does not produce this you develop gout;.Allopurinol is a synthetic form of this. That is why it works so good.

As far as continuing taking fish oil the answer is yes. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil will help some with the pain of a flare up and a lot when you are not having a flare up. It is also very good for your heart.
