Prevention and treatments: http://arthritis.about.com/cs/gout/a/gou...

Here are some alternative treatments: http://arthritis.about.com/od/alternativ...

This talks about how your diet can affect gout: Foods to eat: http://arthritis.about.com/od/gout/a/foo... Foods NOT to eat: http://arthritis.about.com/cs/gout/a/foo...

Good luck =) I feel for ya....my mom had a problem with gout several years back. I think she takes meds for it now.

work out you fat bastard. ;)

no more wine, women or song no really here are some steps

1. See your doctor for a gout test. The test is performed by removing a small amount of fluid from the joint and looking at the fluid under a microscope. You may also need a serum urate test. This is a blood test that will detect uric acid circulating in your system.

2. Rest the inflamed joint, and elevate it. Don't try to "walk off" a gouty toe or knee.

3. Apply ice to gouty joint, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Never apply ice directly against skin. Always wrap ice into ice bag or towel.

4. Keep clothes and blankets off a gouty joint. Any extra weight exacerbates joint inflammation.

5. Make dietary changes. Avoid food with lots of purine: organ meats, sardines, anchovies and dried legumes. Increase your intake of strawberries and cherries. Some studies suggest these two fruits help heal gout. Drink at least two, preferably three, quarts of water a day. Avoid alcoholic beverages and smoking.

6. Take gout medicine. A treatment regimen may include indomethacin and/or naproxen for pain, as well as colchicine orally, every one to two hours, until gout pain is gone.

7. Discuss the option of taking a corticosteroid orally or having it injected into your gouty joint.

8. Ask about using probenecid or sulfinpyrazone to lower the uric acid levels in your urine. These two drugs act by increasing the excretion of uric acid into the urine. Do not take these drugs if you have a history of kidney stones.

9. Consider allupurinol to block the metabolic conversion of purines into uric acids.

There is a gout medication. Did your Dr. give you list of foods that can make it act up? If not call the Dr.'s office and ask the nurse to send you the list.

I don't know much about it, but someone I knew one time had to eat lots of salads when he had it.

Well medication works, when its under control allopurinal, You might want to eat 6 bing cherry's a day. A lot of people say this works, I never tried it, but, Some swear by it...Good Luck...

Gout if properly diagnosed is metabolic disorder of purine metabolism. Medications are available to increase urinary output of uric acid and anti inflammatory agent for the arthritis. A diet low in purines is indicated.
I find some of the answers to this question unhelpful to say the least.

Alfalfa Complex has helped folks with this condition. For more info, feel free to contact me.

there is a medication called indomethacin that works really well there is also allpurinal ask your dr for a prescription for thoes meds they are also inexpensive if you dont have insurance
