Gout releif?? |
my lovely elderly neighbour has just started suffering from gout,he s already on a cocktail of medication for other stuff but does anyone know of anything to bring him a little releif without interfering with his other drugs- no pot smoking please!! I have had chronic acute gout for 15 years. The meds that he should take will have to be from his dr of course, but during a flareup, colchisine or endomethiasin are the common meds that will knock down the flareup, the dr may also prescribe some pain meds, when the flareup has gone he will probably have to take allapurinol on a daily basis, this med lowers your uric acid level to prevent the flareups. I have taken them all and they are hard on your stomach..Good he could try looking at his diet and cutting out alcohol, i know people whose gout has improved dramatically simply by doing this. Have him go see a podiatrist. I work for them and we see gout patients all the time. There is a medication that they use that gives relief right away. They send them for blood work and if frequent relapses they send them to their PMD for a regime of medication. Also, diet can spark an attack. Sea food is a big culprit. there is a tablet that is designed to make it less likely that you get an attack of gout. My mother was given it last year and it seems to have helped her, trouble is it takes 6 months to build up in your system and it can make the attacks more severe in the short term. He needs to see his GP for a prescription called Allopurinal. My elderly Mother is on a cocktail of medication for her heart and under-active thyroid conditions and used to suffer badly from gout, but the Allopurinal, whilst not curing her entirely has certainly eased her pain and now she has months and months with no gout at all. He also needs to drink more fluids to help cut the build of of uric acid in his blood, that causes the gout. |
