The Dr. Says I Have Gout...I'm Not So Sure?

I am 24 years old and the first time I recall experiencing this pain was when I was 13 or 14 years old. Back then, the Dr. thought I had Kidney stones, but I never passed any and he even admitted me to the hospital for 2 days to observe me. Since then, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain in my right side from my ribs to my hips and it goes around me from my belly button to my spine. Sometimes the pain lasts just a few hours, other times it lasts a few weeks. It is so severe that it makes me sick to my stomach and unable to hold any food in my system because eating just seems to make the pain worst. I have had ultra sounds, xrays, urine samples, blood work tests and more tests done but the only thing that has come back it I have hight cholesterol, Gout and a low vitamin B12 level. I am on shots for the B-12 but I don't believe I have gout as Gout typically attacks your big toe before any other part of your body. What do you think & what would u do?

Sounds more like gall bladder, a chronically infected gall bladder or a small stone thet moves easily. The gout is usually in your joints, its a build up of uric acid.

GET A SECOND OPINION.

As far as I know gout starts in the foot...get a second opinion

Hmmm...did they check your gallbladder? Maybe you have gallstones? The youngest person around here that had them was 12.
Also...I take it they xrayed your lungs for infection?

I hope they find out soon what is wrong..and hope you are feeling well fast. Good luck.

Edited to add: I thought gout was in your joints. Caused by too much protein and fat. Gout use to be called "The rich man's disease." Because long ago, it was only the rich that ate 'rich' foods.

quit eating rich foods
eat veggies & no booze

my step dad had it & he's an overweight alcoholic

& exercise

hope ya feel better

Your B12 deficiency may be an important component of your problem. First B12 deficiency causes peripheral neuropathy with often 'bizarre' patterns of neurologic pain.

Second, no healthy 24 year old should be B12 deficient. Therefore, something significant is going on here. You either have a seriously poor diet, and/or some other gastrointestinal issue that is causing B12 deficiency. If there is an underlying problem in your gut, that needs to be properly evaluated and treated. You will need to see a competent specialist to evaluate your gut functions.

Best wishes and good luck.

tim, i had something similar for thirty years and thought i would never be normal again. two years ago , i had my gall bladder removed and feel like a brand new person. go to the dr. and have him specifically check your gall bladder. if he won't do it go to another dr. it took them several times before they found out what was wrong with me. good luck to you.
