Gout in leg....help?

hubby just found out he might have gout in his leg, all i know is its really swollen and sore. can amyone explain what this is? what brings it on and what we can do about it?? im no doctor so i need it explained in simple terms please and thanks.

Gout is joint inflamation due to uric acid buildup in the body. Most people with gout are advised to avoid beans, peas , lentils, spinich and red meat, all of which contribute to excess uric acid in the body. There is a prescription drug called Colchacine which will dissipate the uric acid and relieve the inflamation. People who are gout prone may have to take an anti-purine drug prophilactically to keep from having attacks. Allopurinol is one that is often prescribed. Ibuprofen also helps. The only way to definitely diagnose gout is to take a needle sample of joint tissue and have it tested. It is simpler to prescribe colchacine, and if it helps, thats what it was. If it is gout, colchacine will knock gout out in short order. I might add that gout is very painful. I hope this helps and I hope he will follow his doctors orders. (Disclaimer---I am not a Medical Doctor but I have had gout and these have been my experiences. Follow your own Doctors advice and not mine!)

Its a disease in which you get too much uric acid in your joints. It can be treated easly, so it never comes back, but you need to take a preventive medicine for the rest of your life

Gout is caused by the build up(accumulation)of uric acid in the muscles, causing pain and inflammation. In most cases it happens in just one joint, even just one toe in fact.
Gout often co habits with things like diabetes, obesity and renal disorders (because the person cannot excrete all of the uric acid).
It comes in stages, asymptomatic (no symptoms) Acute, with symptoms and Chrnic (hard to keep at bay).
Usualy treated with Colchicine tablets and good analgesia in the form of non steroidal anti imflammatories.

FOR A QUICK FIX FOR THE PAIN EAT "BLACK CHERRIES" THERES SOMETHING IN THEM THAT HELPS THE BREAK DOWN OF ACID. TRY TO SHY AWAY FROM A LOT OF PORK INTAKE AND/OR ALCOHOL,POP TOO! YOUR HUBBY WILL HAVE TO GO TO DOCTOR IN ORDER FOR THIS TO BE CONTROLLED WITH MEDS.
