Gout: What vitamins to take, what foods to eat, and what foods to stay away from.?

My dad has a gout, and my mom asked me to search for the right vitamins and lists of what foods to eat and what foods to not eat. Can someone help me here? Please tell me what vitamins my dad should take, what foods to eat, and what foods to stay away from.

I was diagnosed with gout (left toe) when I was 26 and actually thought I broke my toe until my doctor gave me the news. prior to being diagnosed with gout i had been taking a diet pill with only water and eating very little food as i was trying to lose weight. Of course that is the worse way to lose weight.

Ways to decrease the chances of getting a repeat gout flare-up:

(1) Losing weight. Best way to lose weight is through a weight training program. I have been able to control my gout through a combination of weight training and cardio but not a whole lot of cardio (because you will get a repeat occurence of gout). 30 minutes max. The main thing here is to increase the amount of testosterone in your system, not decrease it. Don't lose more than 1.5 pounds a week. Do it slow and you won't get gout

(2) Decrease Stress. Stress is a huge factor in getting gout.

(3) Sleep. Get enough "Quality" sleep, like REM sleep. The sleep that makes you feel energized when you wake up. Quality sleep will increase your T levels.

(4)Vitamins. I've taken gnc's mega men and also mega green. If these 2 are a bit too much price wise i would just go for a multivitamin for men such as one a day or centrum. You'll acheive the most from your vitamins if you take them while exercising as in number 1 above. Some vitamins that may help are flax seed, vitamin b complex, bromelain, folic acid, and potassium. I would stay away from too much vitamin C as there are conflicting thoughts on it regarding gout.

(5) Foods to avoid: you can find this info on a number of websites out there. You should stay on a low purine diet. Avoid red meat, organ meats, alcohol, fried foods, caffeine, and sweets.

(6) Avoid crash dieting

(7) Best foods that should help heal: celery, cherries or cherry juice, bananas, and pineapples.

(8) Foods you can eat: milk and dairy products, fruits and vegetables etc. You can find this info on a lot of websites.

I was always told to avoid meat and anything fatty or oily. I know that fresh cherries are supposed to be a great help for gout. I will send you the website if I can find it.

Your Dad is a unique individual with a unique inner environment, like all of us. He needs to take a Vitality Analysis test which reveals many things about his body.

WHAT IS VITALITY ANALYSES?

Vitality Analyses is a system which measures the Vitality in anything living, such as people, plants and animals. Vitality has also been called "life force", "chi" and "prana". Dale Doram, M.Sc., has been researching this field for over 7 years. For example, in one study Coke was found to have a lower Vitality than carrot juice. We know from experience that soft drinks lower our Vitality as they contain no real nutrition.

Likewise, sometimes our bodies feel fresh and vibrant after we breathe mountain air or take a walk after a spring shower. We could say that we have more Vitality. Sometimes we feel tired and dull and in a bad mood. We could say that we have low Vitality that day.

Vitality Analyses uses a specially designed Bio-computer used by a highly trained technician to analyse the Vitality in foods, supplements, our bodies, immune system, etc. It has been found that the Vitality of the body can be enhanced through proper nutrition. The purpose of Vitality Analyses is to measure the bio-energetic impulses of the human Vitality body taking into account the uniqueness of your own body as well as its present conditions.

Our birthright is health and balance. ill health and disease result when balance is lost either through an excess or deficiency of energy in our system. In Vitality Analyses we do not measure disease but instead measure the subtle interplay of body Vitality. Many ancient systems of health have talked about the vital essence of the body. Sometimes it is called

"Chi", "Qi", "Prana" or "Life Force". It is a natural flowing movement that nourishes every cell in the body. When there is a high Vitality (chi or prana) in the body there is less chance of disease because there is less stagnation or inertia in the the vital body and the body can cleanse, balance and heal in accord with the laws of nature. We have found through the experience of hundreds of people that certain changes in lifestyle and nutrition can have a large impact on our vitality.

A UNIQUE FEATURE of Vitality Analyses is that it can assess whether specific foods or supplements will enhance your Vitality prior to your taking or purchasing them. Just think of the savings!

Vitality Analyses can help you to:

I. Plan a nutritional and lifestyle program to optimize your Well Being.

2. Receive feedback about your body on which aspect is limiting your Well Being the most right now.,

3. Learn about the whether toxins, such as heavy metals and colon accumulations, inhibit your Vitality. 4. Find out other factors that can be inhibiting your Vitality such as:

-food sensitivities (ie. allergies)

-Candida Syndrome

-environmental allergies

-stagnation or inertia in vital organs(eg.liver, kidneys)

5. Discover which foods, herbs and supplements will enhance your Vitality the most right now.

6: Monitor your well being over time so that excess or deficiencies of Vitality can be prevented before they manifest as disease.

7. Save money on supplements by only consuming the ones you need!

I can refer your Dad to a trained professional to take this test and they will provide him with a custom food and whole living-food supplement diet that will enhance his vitality.

Very limited vitamin C Hears a list of No- no, beer, wine, liver, kidneys, sardines, anchovies, lentils Things that are good are anything that doesn't make uric crystals (Bing cherries) (cranberry juice) .It is very painful !!!! Ice, elevate that part of body usually begins in joints ,toes wrist, will become fevered that's why the ice ,rubbing the joint moves the crystals around, most people can't stand even a bed sheet on it. See DR. their are two medications on market ( not over the counter ) Allopurinol , EC-Naprosyn maybe there is more now but ask about new ones . They do work drink lots of any kind of water.

your dad should stay away from foods that have high purine levels if the food affects him, such as seafood and organ meats. more vegetables in his diet will help. try to see what he ate just before his attacks and this will help in identifying what causes it. see if he can lose some weight because being overweight also affects gout attacks.

the big factor, have him drink 1 cup of cherry juice every day and this will help. the cherry juice prevents the crystallization of the uric acid. some medicines, such as allopurinol, actually cause a gout attack initially. allopurinol reduces the uric acid level. the cherry juice concentrate has the same effect as the regular so I would recommend the concentrate since it's cheaper. cranberry juice has no effect on gout but has other benefits.

don't be too surprised if the diet doesn't affect his gout attacks because about 1/3 of the cases do not. also, if he has an attack, do not elevate the foot because it makes the situation worse. colchidin (sp?) will help him get rid of the gout attack when he has one.

one last thing: gout is EXTREMELY PAINFUL to anybody that has it, so be patient with him if he is irritable when he has a gout attack.

Be aware of certain vitamins.
Some people suggest that Vitamin C is very good for Gout as it helps reduce uric acid.
This is partially correct, but you must only take 500mgs per day. If a 1000mgs is taken then this can lead to the uric acid deposits breaking away and flowing throughout the body and causing a new Gout attack.
I have a free gout site called Gout Aware that provides more information..http:www.gout-aware.com.
Also try using organic apple cider vinegar with "mother". Mix two tablespoons with a glass of water and a teaspoon or organic honey, and drink after all meals.
This reduces the uric acid in the blood and aids in good gout health.
It works extremely well for me.
Go to the Gout aware site for lots of information.
