Symptoms of gout?

Hello people could some one please remind me about the symptoms of gout as i believe i may have developed it in my right big toe .thanks .

Gout does run in families and the big toe is the commonest joint to be infected. It can however affect any small joint in the body. Uric acid which in an affected individual has high levels in the circulation, precipitates out into a joint producing, pain, swelling, heat and redness. The identical symptoms can occur in any acute arthritis, so it must be confirmed by blood test. This is best carried out after the attack has subsided.

in extreme s untreated cases the crystals themselves can be seen as 'tophi'.

and the joints become damaged

I have had gout before and it definately sucks. At first you will have some irritation and itching, then it will begin to swell and become very painful, for me it lasted about four days until it went down. You should go to the doctor and get some prescriptions for the pain and to make it go away faster. Good Luck!

Gout is a form of localized arthritis, the affected joint or appendage will generally swell, may redden or when symptoms worsen even become blue or purplish (bruised looking) will be "hot" - very tender and sore. You may also experiece simultaneously but not necessarily symptoms of fatigue general malaise (flu-like). You will need elevation, anti inflammatories and to see your Doc.

Good luck.

Intense pain in the big toe most commonly but it can also be in other areas as well I believe. I have had it in my big toes before and it is one of the most painful things you can imagine. I could hardly walk for a few days. I never went to a Dr. but I understand there are some things available that help it somewhat.

At first I thought I must have stubbed my toe. This was followed by swelling and pain. It hurt to bend my toe in any direction and could not bear the slightest pressure. The base of your toe will probably look red and feel hot too. I also ran a slight temperature and felt a bit rough. My attack lasted about 3 weeks due to being unable to take anti inflammatories. They say that you shouldn't take aspirin for gout.
