Could this be gout?

My boyfriend has a severe pain in his left foot. He says that it comes and goes after about five days. He's never injured his foot in any way, could this be gout?

I get the same symptoms, it hurt so bad the first time I thought I had broke my foot-although there was no trauma I had my first outbreak when I was 27ish, and it is not always the big toe, any other tissue around the joints can be affected.

It is caused by uric acid crystals.

I had relief from a Rx indomethacin

Seafood and beer seem to make mine act up more often, but the Wiki page mentioned sleep apnea as well.
