is gout mostly in the arms? need too know family member might have it!!!!

Usually gout will strike in the joint of the big toe. This is because the blood circulation is the weakest that far form the heart. Gout is caused by the uric acid in your blood system. When the kidneys don't flush the uric acid out of your system good enough, the uric acid forms crystals and coagulate at the joint. You can get gout in other joints but usually it strikes in the big toe. Gout will cause the joint to swell and turn red. It is extremely painful. A simple blood test can check the level of uric acid in the blood. If you suspect gout, drink lots of water to help flush the kidneys.
