Gonorrhea Question?

My partner was diagnosed with and treated for gonorrhea late last year. He says the doctor told him that he got it from an infected toilet. 1) Is that possible or is he lying? He also now seems to have a problem getting an erection. 2) Can this be an effect of the disease? I'd like to find out the truth, and I honestly don't think he'll tell me the truth - ever. 3) Is there a way for me to talk to the doctor who diagnosed him with the STD in the first place? I don't think it's fair that my health may be at risk as well. Thanks for your help.

The previous answer is correct. You cannot get gonorrhea from a toilet seat. I'm not saying that the doctor didn't say that (not all physicians are as competent as others)..... but if s/he did say that then s/he is wrong.

You should definitely go in for STI screening (and should do so regularly and not just when there is a "scare"), as the majority of women who are infected with the bacterium that causes gonorrhea have NO symptoms at all.

Inability to achieve an erection is not mentioned in the medical literature regarding gonnococal infections. In the majority of cases of impotence, it is psychological in nature.

It is a possibility that he is experiencing impotence as a psychological reaction to having been infected with an STI. Sometimes that can change how people view sex, and it can result in an unconscious reaction resulting in impotence.

If this problem continues you should encourage him to speak to a healthcare practitioner and possibly find a counsellor or therapist to talk to. Until then, as far as the impotence goes.....be very forgiving. Any further psychological trauma (negative reactions to impotence by partners, lowered self-esteem, etc.,.) can make the problem worse.

Gonorrhea can present (if symptoms even appear) with:
(women)
-cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix)
-pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
-Urethritis (inflammation of the urethra (pee-hole))
-Perihepatitis (inflammation of the sac surrounding the liver)
-Bartholinitis (inflammation of glands in the vagina)

(men)
-Urethritis
-Epididymitis (Inflammation of the sperm tube starting in the scrotal sac)

(men and women)
-pharyngeal infection (throat infection if bacteria is introduced to the oral cavity)
-proctitis (inflammation of the rectum if bacteria is introduced to the rectum)
-possible disseminated infection (when gonorrhea spreads to other areas of the body internally) which can result in:
*arthritis, dermatitis, endocarditis, meningitis

It would be completely unprofessional and illegal for your partners doctor to give you any information regarding your partner's medical history without his consent.

You are right it isn't fair that your health may be at risk as well, however that is why it is important to use condoms/dental dams to protect yourself regardless of the situation. People are human and they make mistakes --- that's just the way it is. By recognizing that (not-so-nice) fact, condom use in relationships should be viewed as a compassionate act....you are acknowledging that people make mistakes (and people lie...everyone does it) and are interested in protecting both of you.....that is love.

That's my view.

Hope that helps

i'm sorry to hear this

no, you cannot get gonorrhea from a toilet.

it is a sexually transmitted disease, so it is transmitted sexually. if he was diagnosed and treated before, and you were still the partner that time, you should have been treated also. cause you might not have the same symptoms that he had, or you might not have any symptoms at all, you might still be infected with it.

there's a difference between infection and disease, you know. INFECTION means that you have the microorganism
DISEASE means that you have the microorganism, and it has affected you, that is why you already have the symptoms.

with the erection, i can't help, i don't know much about it.

if you can't get to his doctor, i think it's best that you should have yourself checked too. if your partner got gonorrhea, he might have other STDs too. i'm sorry, but this is not to scare you, really am just helping.

hope you're okay

LIAR!!!!!

STD- Sexually Transmitted diseases!!

name says it all, look it up on google for more info.

Did you sleep with him before he was treated? if so you will need to get yourself checked up.

Unfortunately his file is private and confidential so you wont be able to discuss his health with his doctor.

but you should know that your BF is one ignorant ... by putting you at risk of having an STD

You do not get gonorrhea from a toilet seat!! He got it by sticking his you know what in some dirty girls you know where!!! You should first of all go get tested and dump him!

Yes he's lying...

The erection problem could be guilt-related or he's cheating on you and getting his rocks off elsewhere...

Not an effect of the disease....

You cannot talk to his Dr. The Dr. will not give you info. Patient confidentiality....

Yes, your health is at risk....

Finally... why in the world would you be with someone who will never tell you the truth about something?!!??

Give your head a shake, and get out of the relationship.

Hes lien about the Dr. said he got it from a toilet....NOT TRUE.....
