How to detect gonorrhea?

My partner was diagnosed with gonorrhea last week and he is currently udner medication. I was diagnosed with UTI, and have finished with my medication. I had a urinalysis to check if my UTI is cleared. There are no other abnormalities in the result of the test. Is it possible that I acquired gonorrhea but it was undetected in the urinalysis? Thank you!

A urine test and/or a swab test can be performed. A blood test will NOT work, like the first two guys said.

If they weren't look for gonorrhea then they most likely didn't test for it and were only looking for the urinary tract infection to show up.

If you believe you have gonorrhea you should be tested, especially because your partner already has it. Gonorrhea can cause some serious health problems for men and women including sterility if left untreated.

blood test

yes, gonorhea is caused by an organism called nisseria gonnorhea and is usually detected by a blood test, about half of all woman and 60% of men remain asymtomatic, so go get a blod test!!!!

All STD tests are thourough and tests done are across the board from HIV to gonorrhea. If I was you I would run from my partner. The next step is death due to infection. Good luck.

gonnorrhea cant be detected in urine..you need a wet prep or std test

You should ask your Dr if they checked you for Gonorrhoea..that is the simplest thing..

Causes:

Risk factors for gonorrhea include the following:
Sex with an infected partner
Multiple sex partners
Low socioeconomic status
Minority status: African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans have the highest rates in the United States.
Condom nonuse or condom failure
History of concurrent or past STDs
Exchange of sex for drugs or money
Use of crack cocaine
Early age of onset of sexual activity

I would have another STD test ran. Sometime when they do STD test they don't check for everything. Make sure they check for gonorrhea.

Detection of Bacterial Genes or Nucleic Acid (DNA) Test

Detection of bacterial genes or nucleic acid (DNA) test is carried out using urine or cervical swabs to detect the genes of the bacteria

This test is often more accurate than culturing the bacteria

Cultures

Growing the bacteria in laboratory cultures involves placing a sample of the discharge onto a culture plate and incubating it for up to 2 days to allow the bacteria to multiply

Cultures of cervical samples detect infection approximately 90% of the time

A culture can also be taken to detect Gonorrhea in the throat

Most people don't even have symptom, green discharge is one, you shouldn't hesitate to get tested because this can cause severe scarring and can result in infertility.

The best way is to get your blood tested for VDRL. It will show the exact infaction. The general symptoms are -
Females, may complain of vaginal discharge, difficulty urinating off-cycle menstrual bleeding, or bleeding after sexual intercourse. The cervix may appear anywhere from normal to the extreme of marked cervical inflamation (cervicitis) with pus. Infection of the urethra (urethritis) causes little dysuria or pus. The combination of urethritis and cervicitis on examination strongly supports a gonorrhoea diagnosis, as both sites are infected in most gonorrhoea patients.More advanced symptoms, which may indicate development of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), include cramps and pain, bleeding between menstrual periods, vomiting, or fever.

Symptoms of gonorrhoeaIn in male patients are difficulty in urinating accompanied by thick, copious, urethral pus discharge is the most common presentation. Examination may show a reddened external urethral meatus. Without effective treatment, ascending infection could extend to the epididymis, testicles or prostate gland causing symptoms such as scrotal pain or swelling. Many men with gonorrhea may have no symptoms at all, some men have some signs or symptoms that appear two to five days after infection; symptoms can take as long as 30 days to appear. Symptoms and signs include a burning sensation when urinating, or a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis. Sometimes men with gonorrhea get painful or swollen testicles.

VD is not detected the same way UTI's are. They will take a vaginal sample. Go to webmd.com, they tell the symptoms. Symptoms are different for men and women. If you have, you will need another anti-biotic to cure it.

From the best of my knowledge gonorrhea is tested through urine and a urethra swab. Although sometimes a swab is more precise because it can detach the bacteria from your urethra unlike urine sometimes.
