Abnormal pap? Gonorrhea/Chlamydia?

I had a pap two months ago. Today I recieved a letter saying there is a chance I have gonorrhea or chlamydia because of increased white blood cells. The letter says that could be normal, but might not be. This is a surprise because I have been monogamous for four years. My partner hasn't ever had any symptoms. Can these STD's last four years without you ever knowing it? What about the fact that my partner never had any symptoms himself?

Pap smears are often incorrect, so you need to let your doctor examine you again. There are numerous reasons why the white count could be up.

However, to answer your question about these two STD's being asymptomatic for years...yes they can:

chalamydia will actually increase your risk of breast cancer later in life. Here is the real thing. Pap smears often times come back incorrect. I would recommend getting 2 other pap smears from different doctors if possible. Get tested for STD's. It never hurts to know.

The only way to know for sure is for you and your partner to get a full battery of blood tests for STD's. It will put both of you at ease, or if it's positive atleast you'll know and can start treatment options.

Don't worry I've had abnormal paps, and my doc thought it might be Syphillis, but it wasn't. Don't stress it.

High white blood cells can also be a bacterial infection and they wont know that untill all the tests come back that has happend to me too. But if you do have any of those stds you better have your man checked out because honey some men are not faithfull and if thats the case Im very sorry for you and good luck.

most likely the lab is covering their butt. there are numerous things that can cause an increased number of WBC's in your vaginal secretions...not just GC or chlam
I would ask the doc that did your pap if there was a chance that a mixup occurred. If the answer does not suit you, then I would ask that he/she do it again...
and if your partner had GC, he would have loads of thick yellow discharge fromhis penis...now chlam would be more innoccous and he might not know that he has it...if your spec comes back + again, then I would ask your partner to donate a urine spec to check for chlamydia...real easy to do and easy to treat

I wouldn't worry. It could be nothing..it could be a bacterial infection ( not STD related) An increase in white blood cells just means there was something going on..which may have been so mild that it remedied itself. Many times we can have a mild bacterial infection that gets better all on it's own. While STDs CAN be symptomless, USUALLY they will cause symptoms. I wouldn't be concerned, but you can always go in and have them do a STD check to ease your mind. HTH

Women can carry the affects of Std's for years because they rarely experience symptoms for a very long time. Now men usually experience symptoms early on in this process. It maybe from an earlier relationship you had, either way now your boyfriend needs to be tested. This may upset you, but are you sure that your boyfriend has not had symptoms ,as they usually do and know very early on.

What you should do is go to the place that they did the testing and ask them to please re-test you. Don't just blow it off because it could turn into HPV which can turn into cancer so if you do it for anyone do it for your self i know i just had surgery to remove Cancer because i ignored a test that i was giving 17yrs ago i told my self there wrong not me and then boom 17yrs later a am being told I'm sorry you have Cancer I thank God everyday they got it all but. White blood cells are indicative of infection. Pus is basically white blood cells... so, while there is a chance that it could be an STD, it could just be some sort of bacteria that you may have picked up from the toilet seat at Wal*Mart. : )

Chlamydia is characterized by a vaginal discharge and frequent painful urination. The symptoms are commonly misdiagnosed as Gonorrhea, which is why you should see your doctor again to get tested for both.

Go back to the Doc, or to another Doctor office and get tested again, It's been 2 months

It might be something small Like Bacteria Vaginosis, which is just an simple infection of too many of a certian Bacteria in you.

It could be HPV which is a virus that can cause cervical cancer and there are many strains of HPV but goes unnoticed due to no signs. Men often are carriers and don't know it and have no symptons of the Virus.

Do you have any Itching, redness, iritation? Disacharge, weird smell?

STI's aren't always showing up with symptons. I think Chlamydia can be in the system for years before you can notice it there. They say it's Silent Killer, and can make you infertile for life if not treated.

I would contact the Doctor again and See if a test can be done again. Try not Too Freak out until they have Complete answer and don't forget to get a Second Opinion.
