Treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea?

gonorrhea and chlamydia often go hand in hand. if you cure gonorrhea without chlamydia unknowingly would the symptoms go away?

Gonorrhea should be treated with 125mg of ceftriaxone (a shot. In Massachusetts, we recommend 250mg.) It can also be treated with 2 grams of azithromycin, but the shot is better.

Chlamydia is treated with 1gram of azithromycin, or 100milligrams of doxycycline taken 2-times a day for 7 days.

If you were treated with ceftriaxone- you need a separate treatment for chlamydia. If you were treated with azithromycin (2grams) for gonorrhea- you would not need additional treatment for gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea and chlamydia often appear together, which is why doctors usually treat for both when someone tests positive for either. If you are only treated for one, however, you are right in suspecting that the symptoms (but not the other infection) might go away. Most women dont show symptoms for either, in any case.

stop sleeping around

don't know..thats a question for the doc

I think the medicine they give you for one will cure the other too but if you have them both you might get more dosage so if you have one cured and not the other you need to go back to get checked to see if the infection is all cleared up, otherwise you will need additional antibotics to take for a longer period of time to get rid of them both. Then your cure is safe sex.

they give you the same type of meds. to cure both.

Tx's:
Chlamydia - Macrolide antibiotics
Gonorrhea - Ceftriaxone antibiotics

See your doc.
