Goiter glands? |
Anyone out there with goiter glands that can share with me their symptoms? goiter means enlargment of thyroid gland in which enlargment may be due to either hyper or hypo function of the thyroid and sometimes it is endemic in certain areas . Anyway the symptoms in common are ( may be asymptomatic and the patient complain only of disfigurment and there may be some pressure symptoms as dysphagia " painful swallowing " or horsness of voice and rarly pain refered to the ear due to malignancy Do you mean underactive thyroid glands? My friend has it. Her mom actually got onto her because her throat didn't look right. It wasn't extremely obvious, but in the front of her throat was a thickened area somewhat like a mans adams apple. Except not as pointy. She said she had difficulty swallowing. When she went to the Dr. he agreed with the moms concern and sent her for blood test which confirmed that her thyroid was underactive, so ahe was put on medicatiion and the lumpish area in her throat went away. A goiter is simply a swollen thyroid gland. As your thyroid fails, it works harder and harder to produce hormones, so it enlarges. That is a goiter. |
