I had blood work done to check my thyroid, and it was normal can i still have a goiter?

i'm 26 and pretty healthy oh so i think, today i had blood work done to check my thyroid since i've been feeling very fatigued and i've felt a squeezing in my throat and shortness of breath recently ,a friend asked me the other day if i had a goiter and i had no idea what a goiter was but today i went to the doctor and she felt my throat and said it feels pretty big i'm so scared because i don't have a clue on this and i thought if my blood work was normal i would be fine but i started feeling my throat and felt something hard so i am so confused and scared, she's sending me to get an ultrasound and it freaks me out,i don't understand if my thyroid is normal then what is this goiter? if someone knows please let me know.

Goiter means your thyroid gland is big. You can have a goiter even with a normal thyroid function test. The only way to find out if there's anything in it is by ultrasound, thyroid scan or a biopsy if a prominent nodule can be felt. These tests are easy and totally painless except for a biopsy of course if needed.

Dont be scared you are young and most likely it is not a serious thing and is manageable by drugs. Flag signs for worrying are old age, history of thyroid cancer and shooting high thryoid function tests.

I think the best thing is for you to go to a good website for some reading on your condition.I am listing below the mayoclinic site. They explain everything you need to know and if you click where it says treatment then it will explain what treatment you can expect.Calm down and do some reading. My sister inlaw had a goiter once and everything went fine with her. Go check out the site I listed for you and do some reading so you can understand your condition.
