Can eating of raw cabbage give you goiter?

Can eating of raw cabbage give you goiter?

Yes, it can.
Some foods such as raw cabbage, turnips, cauliflower, soybeans, and peanuts contain a substance called goitrogens, which inhibit thyroid activity. Prolonged consumption can lead to goiter development, but cooking deactivates these compounds. People who are on a strict salt-free diet are those who will benefit most from an iodine supplement.

Raw cabbage is good for you. It has vitaminC and fiber. Coleslaw is good.

Goiter is caused by lack of iodine in the diet. It is found in iodized salt. and ocean fish. Goiter can also be caused by an internal problem. If you have a swollen thyroid, you should see a doctor.

I don't think so. My mom loves raw cabbage. She craved it when she was pregnant with me. She said once say ate a whole head at one sitting. She had massive heart burn but that's all.
