Glaucoma and Yoga? |
I am diagnosed with Glaucoma about a year ago. I have been doing yoga (without the head stand) for more than 7 years on a regular basis. After the diagnosis I have avoided doing the shoulder stand and the plough as well. I certainly miss those poses. My question: "Is performing the sun salutation OK?Would it affect the optic nerve? My IOP is normal and I have the normal tension gluacoma. Please let me know the poses that would affect Glaucoma." I would love to continue my yoga routine as much as possible. I have enjoyed reading your comments on Glaucoma. Very useful. Damage to the optic nerve comes from elevated eye pressure over time generally, doing your various positions would not harm your optic nerve. The brief amount of time that you would be in this position would have no long standing effect. |
