My friend detected her glaucoma early and if she takes her medecines and regular check ups what are the chances of her still lose her vision? From statistics or experiences what does the chance of not losing your vision if you have glaucoma? please help... ='(

Glaucoma is a group of diseases of the optic nerve involving loss of retinal ganglion cells in a characteristic pattern of optic neuropathy. Although raised intraocular pressure is a significant risk factor for developing glaucoma, there is no set threshold for intraocular pressure that causes glaucoma. One person may develop nerve damage at a relatively low pressure, while another person may have high eye pressure for years and yet never develop damage. Untreated glaucoma leads to permanent damage of the optic nerve and resultant visual field loss, which can progress to blindness.
Glaucoma has been nicknamed "sneak thief of sight" because the loss of visual field often occurs gradually over a long time and may only be recognised when it is already quite advanced. Once lost, this damaged visual field can never be recovered. Worldwide, it is the second leading cause of blindness.Glaucoma affects one in two hundred people aged fifty and younger and one in ten over the age of eighty. As long as therapy has been initiated and continues the loss of soght is decreased. It really all depends how far the disease has progressed before it was caught. Once treated the loss would be stabilized and sight loss dramatically slowed

I do not know whether this is helpful. My dad is also suffering from glaucoma, for a long time now. He takes his medicines regularly but this can only help up to a point. His ophthalmologist later advised him to go for surgery as the pressure can no longer be controlled by eyedrops. My dad later had surgery in both eyes, but not simultaneously. His vision is rather blurry now, but it is comforting to know that he will not go blind.

they are good but it takes time to loose sight if she is a diebitic she has had her illness for a long time or she does not check herself I am sorry you have my 12 years of being a diebitic to help you if you need further info God help your friend being blind sucks but there is good in all things that happen to us like me I stoped drinking and using drugs regained some sanity in my life however breif
