Lumigan for start of glaucoma?

I just got my eye pressure measured. Its 26 in the left and 22 in the right. Four months ago it was 22, 20. The doc has prescribed lumigan to lower the pressure. Do I have glaucoma? How soon will the pressure come down with lumigan. Is this for life? I am really scared.

According to Stemans Medical Dictionary, glaucoma is: A disease of the eye characterized by increased intraocular pressure, excavation, and atrophy of the optic nerve; produces defects in the field of vision. Lumigan is a commonly prescribed medication to help control the pressure in the eye. Since damage to the optic nerve occurs gradually, over time, it is VERY important that you not miss doses. If this is a complication of diabetes, it is important that you control your blood sugars on a daily basis as well. If you use your medication wisely, your prognosis is very good. Just be diligent and make sure you are seeing a good ophthalmologist...some even specialize in glaucoma if you are near a large medical center! As far as how long until you see the effects of Lumigan, you should research the drug in Yahoo! Health. Is this for life? Most likely yes, unless you are one of the few with closed angle glaucoma. This type can be treated wtih laser surgery. Good luck to you!
