Who was the doctor that diagnosed Glaucoma for the first time and in what year?

this is for a medical paper on glaucoma and I need the name of the doctor and the year.

Very hard question,Cowgirlwishes....for the simple reason that the word GLAUCOMA has been in use for over 2300 years.
It was first used in the time of Hippocrates (the doctor commonly called the father of modern medicine) in 400 B.C to describe an eye condition which caused loss of vision,an eyeball that was hard to the touch and colour changes on the cornea.
The word itself comes from the Greek..GLAUKOS.. meaning gray or clouded.
Over the years, the definition of the word has been changed and revised by several medical bodies all over the world; and many changes have been made in the treatments used..from herbal tinctures to medications, surgery, goniotomy -first introduced by Dr Barkan in the 1940's and the latest laser trabeculoplasty approved in 2001..
So..you can't actually say for sure who the first doctor was nor in what year..it was an evolutionary process of diagnosis.
Best of luck with your paper!
