Glandular Fever, I had G/F back in November and i still feel really rubbish, all i want to do is sleep and?

my whole body aches most of the time. I keep getting headaches and feel dizzy now and then. My doctor surgery is useless as i can never get an appointment. And they may think im silly when i say all i want to do is sleep! Does anyone know how long Glandular Fever can go for and what are the after effects?

Thanks

Hi, it sounds to me like your GF has changed into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) which some Doctors even refuse to acknowledge exists... Tell that to the persoin suffering it!!! I think that you need to try some alternative treatments now, like taking Vitamin B (all of them, not just one form of B vitamin) and also to see if there is a doctor in your area who treats people with CFS directly. I would suggest looking up in the yellow pages and through google and yahoo for a doctor and consult with them. This is a terrible condition and the GF can lead to CFS and often does, so you need to look after yourself, be kind to your body, rest as much as you can and sleep as much as you can. Also make sure you eat enough fruit and vegetables to help you fight the illness. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon :-)

Hi Gems,
Glandular fever is a very debillitating illness and can take months to get over. I am disappointed in your Drs Surgery, they should be looking after you much better then they are. You may want to consider changing practices and or writing a complaint to the practice manager. If you have no joy there then you can write to the Local FHSA (Family Health Service Association).
All you can do is rest, so if you want to sleep that's OK. Take plenty of fluids fruit juice and water. Plenty of fruit and veg as well.
I will look up what I can do for you as a Herbalist if you like, as well, feel free to email me.
Hope you are better soon.
Marcus.

You have my sympathy,
GF occurs world wide and is particularly common among adolescents and young adults. It is probably transmitted in saliva. (hence it is often called "kissing disease"). Its presentation is of variable severity and the length of the illness also varies considerably.
Glandular fever (also sometimes called Infectious mononucleosis), is a viral illness caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, (This virus is very "nasty" so your immune system needs plenty of rest and sleep to get back to normal), and it is known that a few unfortunate patients may remain debilitated and depressed for several months after having GF
It can last 6 months or more - at which stage it is very like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or Fibromyalgia, hence info from them web regarding these may be of use to you; as may general advise on fatigue and how to cope with it.
I'd advise that you try webMD http://www.webmd.com/
or net doctor http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ for information

Your doctor should be more help. Unfortunately "tired all the time" (TATT) is very a common symptom of many things, so GP's often don't take much notice until you have had the same symptoms for more than 6 months or unless you push them to investigate further. Your GP is probably just thinking "we know whats wrong, it's recovering from GF" . Don't be affraid to go back to doctor, a good doctor will never think that you are "silly" for taking care of your health

Glandular fever can take up to 6 months to totally recover.
