Boyfriend with glandular fever? |
Ok, so my boyfriend has glandular fever or 'the kissing disease'. And I'm fairly sure I'm the person that gave it to him, since he hasn't kissed anyone else in a while and I'm the only person he knows of who has had it within the last year or so. I was curious, if I kiss him now, would I get sick from him or not because I was the person that gave it to him? If I'm able to transmit it and have no symptoms, will I still have no symtoms after kissing him? Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, and having it gives you immunity against it in the future. You didn't say when you had it, but if it's been more than six months ago, changes are you weren't the source of the infection. The incubation period is betwee 2 and 6 weeks as a rule. It's commonly spread through saliva, but can also be spread through a shared eating utensil or cup. He may have a close friend or family member who's had it mildly enough not to realize it, and that may be the source. Since you already had mono, you will be immune for the rest of your life. Most people are exposed and immune by the time they reach their 30's. The kissing disease is mononeucleosis (from the Epstein- Barr virus) and doesn't not spread only through kissing. One can also get it from sharing drinks, food, etc. It is passed through saliva, so one could conceivably also get it from accidentally touching something that had fresh saliva on it and then touching his mouth. He could very possibly have picked it up at school or elsewhere. You can get mono in other ways not just by kissing. Yes, you could get it again. |
