Doctor Was Useless: Is This Mono? [Glandular Fever]? |
I've had an incredibly sore throat for going-on ten days now. I've had flu symptoms to accompany, like the initial sore limbs and a more recent runny nose and cough. There are no white patches on my tongue and my doctor said my throat didn't appear too inflamed, but she said my glands were huge. She checked my spleen and said "No lymph nodes there," whatever that means. To the med school genius: I'm in Australia, where flu season has well and truly died down, and it is spring. Had you read my question properly, you would have also seen that my doctor was female. Glad to see another doctor paying so much attention... Most probably not. Its the flu season, and your symptoms indicate you have the flu. Wrong. I took the test. I have mono. Report It My daughters both had mono. They had the same symptoms as you do! There is a test they can do for mono and I would insist they do it. They told my daughter she had strep throat or some odd thing and she ended up in the hospital with Mono. Then a few years later my other daughter caught Mono and they told me it was the flu. I finally had her tested and it was definitely mono and she was hospitalized. In your case it might be a cold or the flu, but I would definitely insist on the test to put my mind at ease. Hope your feeling better. :) |
