I have glandular Fever and a severe sore throat, i can't eat without horrible pain, should i force myself to?

I know i need to eat and drink as much as possible but when i do either my throat feels like an open wound being torn apart. I'm hungry but will forcing myself to eat through the pain result in hindering the recovery?

Lipton Chicken Noodle Soup!(Extra Noodle Etc.)
The salt content will help to reduce the inflamation!

Home Care for Sore Throat
********************************
* Sore throat is usually not a very serious disease. It can be treated most effectively with some simple remedies available in the home, including:

* Taking aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen for pain. But children should not be given aspirin because of the risk of Reye's syndrome (see Reye's syndrome entry).

* Gargling with warm tea or warm salt water

* Drinking plenty of fluids but avoiding fruit juices

* Eating soft, nutritious foods, such as *noodle soup, and avoiding spicy foods

* Refraining from smoking

* Resting until the fever is gone

* Increasing the humidity of a room with a room humidifier

* Avoiding the use of antiseptic lozenges and sprays, which are likely to make the condition more uncomfortable

Drink lots of water if you can - would a straw help?
Food wise (and I only thought of this because I prepare it almost everyday or my baby) but you could steam some fruit & veg then blend them into a puree. Refrigerate them and eat them cold. That way you are getting good quality food into you & it's cold which will be soothing more than hurting & you can also combat your hunger.
I really hope you feel better soon! Get lots of rest.

Once I had a (viral, I think) infection very much like what you describe. The only thing I could stand eating (and it actually felt GOOD) was tomato soup, the good old fashioned Campbell's. I made it with water, but if your throat can handle it and you like it, try mixing it with milk instead, to add extra nutrients. Otherwise, make it with water and eat/drink as much as you can stand. The fluids are good for you and you're getting some vitamins and electrolytes as well. If you make it with milk, you're getting protein and even more vitamins/lytes.

Good luck! Tell us how you're doing.
