Have you had Glandular fever. What are the symptoms?

Have you had Glandular fever. What are the symptoms?

Glandular fever often starts with a few days of mild symptoms, including headache, and tiredness. The major symptoms then develop, and may last seven to twenty one days. They vary in how badly they affect you, but usually include a fever, sore throat, and tiredness, along with aches and pains all over the body.

This phase of the illness may last a few days to a few weeks. It is accompanied by tender enlargement of the glands (the lymph glands or lymph nodes) which are around the body to help defend against infection.

A small number of people (about one in ten) develop a faint red rash on the trunk and limbs. Sometimes the liver may become inflamed (hepatitis), even to the extent of making you go yellow (jaundiced).

After the worst of the initial symptoms have passed, most people continue to feel tired all the time, and easily exhausted. This is frequently accompanied by depression.

After a period of weeks or months, most people return to normal.

yes i had it. i got really sick with headaches, runny nose, aches and pains, sore chest, heavy breathing etc. Its like a really bad flu but it can stay in your system for 6months-2years.
You catch it from other peoples saliva, sharing spit which is why its commonly known as the kissing diesease!

I had glandular fever some years ago. It started with an unbearably sore throat for a couple of weeks. Nothing helped it. Then my temperature went through the roof, and everyone thought I was drunk, cos I was somewhat delerious!! Then I was quite poorly for a few weeks - just getting out of bed exhausted me. I had to drink guiness to help me build my self up when I started to recover. I was off work for about 6 weeks, and then went back part time for a couple of weeks. It leaves you pretty weak and tired for about a year afterwards.

Thinning hair can be a problem too and terrible tiredness..

yes i have your glands swell up in your neckand a horrendous sore throat, you feel shaky and cold but are burning up,you can only drink water because you feelm like your throat is closing up.if you have glandular fever you are ill in bed,it makes tonsilitis feel like a tickle,i really hope you don,t get it if you have i really feel for ,and get well soon x

I had it when I was about 9 and it is like really bad flu and sore throat then you feel really really tired, just getting up for the toilet leaves you fast asleep for the afternoon, the glands in your neck at the front and side get swollen.Your doctor can do a blood test to check for it but there is not much in the way of medication , a good diet, multivitamins etc seems to help. you have to be careful playing sports afterwards for I think 6 months as your spleen swells and it can damage it, for further information you can check on google or nhs direct .co.uk.
Hope if you have it you feel better soon.
