Can giardia reoccur 3 years after the original infection?

I had several bouts of giardia while in the Peace Corps. I've had the noxious sulfur burps all day and the lovely accompanying gas. I know my water is from a clean source and Peace Corps taught me to wash my hands a lot. It's keeping me up at the moment, so I was wondering if anyone knew if it does reoccur?

I'm a RPCV and it sure sounds like something is going on with the old sulfur burps and gas. I don't know about reoccurring infections though.
I was in for 5 plus years and I was sick a lot for the first 2 years. I quit getting sick after awhile and when it got time to get out I was tested for all the regular things and all tests came out negative. I have never had any problems since I've been home, but I wonder what is probably still growing in me, because I got so I could eat and drink anything, anywhere and did not get sick and was never treated for anything.

do you have a pet? got a kid, or maybe your friends do? daycares are rife with disease, infections/parasites. sure you take care to wash often but kids and pets are quick and they're ready carriers.
