Have you had the giardia parasite?

I'm not talking about an STD, so please no stupid answers. If you've had giardia, how were you tested for it (blood, stool...) and how did you get rid of it? Feel free to share any other parasite stories.

I have not had it, but my grandmother caught it from a contaminated well. It is diagnosed by doing a test called an O&P (Ova and Parasite) on your stool. It is performed by basically looking at the stool under a microscope and searchng for the parasite or its eggs.

The treatment for Giardia is to take an anti-parasitic drug. The most commonly used one is Metronidazole (trade name: Flagyl) It is very easily treated once it is diagnosed.
