Is this food poisoning, giardia or what? Help please??

Hi...the night before last I began vomiting really bad and it went on for hours. My tummy still hurts, and I feel awful, but have been able to keep down small bits of bland food since, though it does cause pain and nausea. I was supposed to go from Australia to Canada today but had to cancel. I just went to the doc, but he didn't really have any answers...said probably food poisoning or food allergy (I have a lot of those) and maybe giardia.
Re giardia, about 1 1/2 weeks ago I got a take out salad from a place where I have gotten live bugs in my salad before. After eating the salad I felt burpy, to the point where I thought about putting the rest of the salad aside for testing if I got sick. The day of my vomiting, I had a banana and 2 date scones...the bakery swears the dates don't have added sulfites. The doc has said to leave it a day or 2 and bring in a stool sample if it persists. I want to know if I can go ahead and safely re-book my trip for next week. Thanks.

I should have added that I am allergic to the drug that they use to treat Giardia. Can it be cured without drug treatment?
Thanks

I was infected with giardia some years ago. Nausea, diarrhea and lethargy were my symptoms and most common I was told by my dr. He prescribed Flagyl and I felt better in 1 day! By the way, I put it off for 1 month- just put up with those classic symptoms. And no it will not clear up on its own. Giardia is a parasite that sets up housekeeping in your intestine. The poo from it makes you sick. Gross huh? They are microscopic. But here's what I think...I don't think you have it. Sounds like classic food poisoning or some other digestion problem.

Lemme get this straight: You went BACK to a place where you'd gotten nasty food BEFORE? You were ASKING for food poisoning or something worse. And I don't think it's food poisoning if you're still sick several days later. Food poisoning usually works its way out after a day. At least it did the last time I had it.
As for giardia, I've never had that. It could be e coli, especially if you eat salads.

"the drug used to treat giardia is like antibuse, you cannot put anything on you with alcohol in it or it makes you sick. This includes most cosmetics and soaps and shampoo. You cannot cure it without the drugs--it is a paracite and gets your liver---been there not once but twice--from children in a day care and from playing with my kids in a creek. Take in a stool sample and see what the doc says.
