Antibiotics used to treat adults include metronidazole, albendazole and quinacrine. Furazolidone and nitazoxanide may be used in children. Treatment is not always necessary, as the body can defeat the infection by itself.

The most common treatment is metronidazole (Flagyl). Although there are other medications which can be used, Flagyl is the one that is is usually prescribed. It is cheap and safe, and works well.

Moxifloxacin is usually used for respiratory or skin infections, such as community acquired pneumonia, or Staphylococcus aureus skin infections. It can also be used for bacterial conjunctivits in the form of eye drops.
