What is the cure for giardia?

I'm a physician and an outdoorsman.

Giardia lamblia is a single-celled protozoan, and the cyst is the dormant stage, the hardy form in which it exists in the environment, and, so, the form in which it is ingested.

Standard medical therapy consists of antibiotic therapy. Metronidazole is the most common. It isn't an easy "bug" to clear... better to prevent it.

I have been doing research myself, have been sick for 3 weeks after coming back from Mexico.

From what I know Giardia is a bacterial infection and not a parasidic infection. Most cases will go away on their own, antibiotics need to be taken if not by the infected as well as anyone living in the house who could be infected but aren't showing any symptoms.
