Help with my gestational Diabetes results --Do I have Diabetes?????/.......?

I am 30 weeks pregnant and my doctor says that I have gestational diabetes, here are my results for the glucose tolerance test:
Fasting-75,
1 hr- 172,
2 hr-152,
3hr -127.
My doctor has reffered me to an endocrinologist whom I have yet to meet,
My problem is that when I checked online I found two different set of diagnostic criteria, and when I spoke to my doctor abt this she said that there are two different criteria for diagnosis of gestational diabetes and that I qualify by the classic test, and not by the newer classification.
Please help...Does anyone know if these results mean that i have diabetes.....

Listen to your doctor and follow her recommendations. While Gestational Diabetes is serious, it can be controlled with diet and doesn't mean you have Diabetes forever--it will go away after the birth of your baby (although you are considered at higher risk for Diabetes in the future and should take measures to prevent getting it for real).

Go with the side of caution. If you have Gestational Diabetes according to classic standards (but not according to a new test), then many women before you were also given the same diagnosis and changed their diets for the benefits of their babies even if they might have squeaked by with a newer test.

Bottom line--you have high blood sugar, and your body is not metabolizing sugar effectively. It will not hurt you or your baby for you to follow the suggestions to lower your blood sugar. In fact it will be good for your baby and reduce your risks of further complications.

You have gestational diabetes and need to treat this. You will not have it once the baby is born. See the endocrinologist like you are supposed to and get this under control.

see the endocrinologist, let them decide whether or not you have it. Don't worry too much, it will likely pass once you have the baby.

You will be fine just when the baby is born it will go away.

What this means is that you should not panic. See the endocrinologists and do not worry so much. Christ knows that I wish I had those scores. I am type II for seven years who just had to start insulin. The levels you report are not life threatening nor should they hurt your baby so calm down and see the other Dr and see what they say.

Gestational diabetes usually goes away after you deliver, however in some cases it doesn't go away but can be controlled by diet, exercise and medication taken in pill form. The best thing would be to set up your appointment with the endocrinologist.

You will be able to treat this working with your new Endo. Doc. And training with a diabetic dietitian. They will give you a bunch of great info...You & baby will be fine if you stick with there planning for you.

My daughter is type 1 and just had a very big.... but gorgeous healthy baby. Just remember the more control you have over this. The better chance your baby will not turn out to be 13 pounds. And you can have the baby natural instead of a c-section.

It's a lot of work but well worth it!!

This should end with the birth of your baby. But up your chances later in life to become type 2. If you don't start watching your health now.

Good-Luck !!

Actually, you do not have gestational diabetes by definition, the cutoffs used for a 100g 3hr test are as follows:

Fasting: less than 95 mg/dL
1 hour: less than 180 mg/dL
2 hour: less than 155 mg/dL
3 hour: less than 140 mg/dL

which means that you're just under at all points. I'm not sure what criteria your doctor is using, but I would say that your test is negative.

If your doctor referred you to an endocrinologist, you should go. He/she will be able to more effectively diagnose you than people on yahoo, and will help you to devise a plan to help you effectively manage your diabetes, if you have it.

You may be able to control things with your diet alone. You may not need insulin. But go see the endo and follow the diet plan.

I had borderline GD with my first baby and I was told to limit rice, bread, pasta, juice, fruit and of course, all sweets. All the things I craved! :-( But doing so was enough. Good luck.
