Gestational Diabetes..im so confused...?

Ok, so i just got the call from my ob... I have failed my 3 hour gestational diabetes test. (I also failed my 1 hour test, my level was over 200). So i am going to the doctor and then the the nurse & dietician this week. my ob said that my gluecose level (from my 3 hour test) was 145-ish. What is the average gluecose level for a pregnant woman? I am a little confused... Please give me any info you can! THANKS!
Oh- I am 28.5 weeks pregnant with #2
My first baby was 10lb 3.5oz and i did NOT have G.D.
I am 23 years old.
I had a c-section with #1, planning a c-section with this baby also.

Idealy you want to maintain careful control of the mothers blood sugar between 70 and 120mg/dl. This would be an average gluelcose for a pregnant woman.#

So it sounds like you failed the 50-gram 1-hour glucose challenge test (GCT). The GCT is administered to all pregnant women at 26-28 weeks, followed by a 100-gram, 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) for those with an abnormal screening result.*

Heres how your health care provider looks at the results of a oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)

Plasma Glucose Criteria for Gestational Diabetes
time 100g glucose load mg/dl (mmol/L)
Fasting 95 (5.3)
1-H 180 (10.0)
2-H 155 (8.6)
3-H 140 (7.8)
*table (Moore, Warshak)

The sensitivity of gestational diabetes mellitus testing depends on the threshold value used for the 50-g glucose challenge.
Current recommendations from the American Diabetes Association "Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes--2007" and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists note that a threshold value of 140 mg/dL results in approximately 80% detection of gestational diabetes.*

Now in reguards to management of gestational diabetes, this condistion requires good prenatal care. You will most likely be instructed by your health care providers on diabetic management and the importance of balancing diet and exercise. You may be required to monitor your glucose levels.#

Be aware of signs and symotoms of hypoglycemia, The most important is abnormal mental status. Ask your doctor or provider concerning the specifics.

The most important thing you can do is to ask your health care providers questions. If you think up question outside of visits, write them down. Don't feel intimidated to ask any and all questions and address any concerns.

"A blood sugar level below 130 to 140 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) is usually considered normal on a glucose challenge test, although this may vary at specific clinics or labs."

Good luck with the baby. You should ask your doc what you can do to lower your chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes after your delivery, too.
