Blood glucose lvl's and gestational diabetes?

Ok I was told that I have gestational diabetes and that I need to test my sugar lvl's 4 times a day. The only problem I have with this is that since I've been testing my sugar lvl it's always in the healthy non-diabetic area. Usually around the 90's. Did my Dr. make a mistake? I'm not going to keep testing my blood for the heck of it...this is annoying and pointless if you ask me.

Are you taking any kind of meds to keep your blood sugar down now if so maybe they are working right. Or maybe now you are paying more attention to what you are eating and diet alone is keeping it at a good level. With diabetes and pregnancy if your blood sugars get out of control it can cause problems with the baby. During early fetal development if your blood sugar is too high can cause heart deffects and other organs to not form correctly. If your sugars run high throughout the pregnancy you baby can be born with low blood sugar. It was used to getting extra sugar from you and when the umbilical cord is cut all of a suden the extra is gone so can cause the babies blood sugar to bottom out. Also if you are gestational diabetic can cause the baby to be very big liek 10 lbs or better and then you have a hard time delivering. I'd agree with the nurse about testing until your next doctors appointment and then showing him your blood sugar log and ask if he was sure about the gestational diabetes diagnosis.

Better safe than sorry.....please keep checking your levels on a daily basis consistently for at least 1 month. Keep a detailed log of each result (day, time, BS level), take this to your doctor at your next exam and maybe they will re-evaluate you.

However, the health of you and your unborn child is most important vs a little inconvenience and annoyance.

Did you eat or drink anything before you Glucose Tolerance Test...that can skew the results.
